Afrikan Drumming & Dance Classes!!
New after school programs lets your child explore an exciting new world though Afrikan drumming or dance classes. Open to all grade levels; space is limited so please register early. First come, first served.
Drumming class - with Baba Atiba Y. Jali, master drummer & recording artist.
Dance class - with Sali Vickie Casanova, teaching & performing artist
Students will learn traditional hand drumming techniques from the founder of The BUSA Family Afrikan Drum & Dance Troupe. Classes cover various rhythms of the Afrikan diaspora, plus the history of the percussion instruments.
Research shows that studying a musical instrument stimulates cognitive development, increases self-esteem and improves memory. This class will also develop motor skills and enhance teamwork while teaching patience, discipline and focus all while making music and having fun!
Students will enjoy one of the best forms of exercise around -- dance !!
Learn traditional and contemporary Afrikan rhythms and the meaning behind the many dance moves while moving to the beat of the drums. Ms. Vickie, also known to her many former students as "Mama Sali," will help students master the unique footwork and interpretive style of Afrikan dances from across the continent.
Dance classes help improve creative expression, body image, self esteem and overall fitness. This class will also enhance motor skills and listening skills while teaching students about other cultures through the arts.
